3 priority science questions that need to be answered:
Quantitative population assessments of deep-sea specfies populations must be conducted to provide baseline data for which declines due to expanding deep-sea fishing can be compared to or measured against. The effect of different deep-sea fishing methods on deep-sea species populations and deep-sea ecosystems needs to be investigated in order to eliminate or restrict particularly harmful methods. More research needs to focus on sustainable aquaculture methods in order to take the pressure of our oceans.
