Anything other contribution:
My research is highly interdisciplinary (utilizing genomic tools and computational biology in conjunction with traditional ecological and taxonomic knowledge), and I routinely interact with a wide variety of scientific disciplines. This interdisciplinary scope has enabled me to work with people from diverse backgrounds, and required me to develop effective communication skills to translate and transfer knowledge between fields. I believe such skills would be effectively leveraged towards interactions between scientists and policymakers.

Secondary Expertise - Other:
Metagenomics, high-throughput sequencing technologies

3 priority science questions that need to be answered:
1. Adequately characterizing the scope of biodiversity (and biogeographic patterns) for benthic marine species 2. How can we leverage genomic/molecular tools to improve scientific efficiency (more rapid gain of scientific knowledge) and develop rapid, practical environmental assessment tools. 3. How can we better integrate scientific knowledge from historically disparate fields (oceanography, taxonomy, biogeochemistry) to gain a holistic understanding of marine ecosystem functioning?
